CDTI aid for R&D+I
The Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI) promotes innovation and technological development in Spanish companies by providing financial aid to carry out R&D+i business projects nationally and internationally.
CDTI Research and Development Projects (PID-CDT)
The CDTI maintains an open call for proposals throughout the year to finance business research and development R&D projects applied to the creation of or significant improvement of a production process, product, or service. The projects must show a differential technological aspect compared to existing technologies in the market.
It allows public-private co-operation in the areas of R&D since certain project activities can be subcontracted to research bodies.

Application deadline: all year round
Objective: Aid for companies’ R&D projects to create and significantly improve production processes, products, or services.
Type of project: individual or collaborative industrial research or experimental development, minimum budget 175,000 euros, duration 12 to 36 months.
Beneficiaries: a company or consortium of Spanish companies that carry out R&D activities.
Type of aid/eligible expenses: partially reimbursable aid of up to 85% of the budget, non-reimbursable tranche (TNR) of between 20%-33%. Amortisation in 10 years (grace period 2-3 years) fixed interest rate Euribor 1 year (min. 0%). Advance payment of 35%. The company must contribute at least 15% of its resources.

The Strategic Business Research Consortium Programme (CIEN)
The CIEN Strategic Programme finances considerable industrial research and experimental development projects, developed in effective collaboration by business groups, and aimed at conducting planned research in strategic areas of the future and with potential international projection.
It also seeks to promote public-private co-operation in the area of R&D, requiring the relevant activities to be subcontracted to research bodies (at least 15% of the total of the budget).
Status: open
Application deadline: all year round
Objective: to support large R&D projects, developed in effective collaboration by business groups, and aimed at conducting planned research in strategic areas of the future and with potential international projection.
Type of project: industrial research activities (more than 50%) and experimental development, a minimum budget of 5,000,000 euros.
Beneficiaries: minimum three and maximum eight groups of companies, at least two companies that are independent of each other, and one SME.
Type of aid/eligible expenses: partially reimbursable assistance of up to 75% of the budget, of which up to 33% is a non-reimbursable tranche (TNR). Repayment over ten years (grace period 2-3years) fixed interest rate Euribor 1 year (min. 0%). Advance payment of 35%. The company must contribute at least 15% of its resources.

CDTI MISSIONS
The CDTI MISSIONS Programme is the CDTI’s new public-private co-operation programme that aims to respond to the major challenges that Spanish society and industry are facing through research and development of new technological solutions by researching and developing new technological solutions.
The projects must be aligned with the major challenges or “Missions” defined by the CDTI.
- MISSION AGRICULTURE: To promote Spanish agriculture in the 21st century: sustainable, intelligent, efficient in the consumption of water resources and adapted to Climate Change.
It enables public-private co-operation in the area of R&D by subcontracting research centres.
Status: close
Application deadline: 05/09/2022
Objective: to finance the implementation of new business projects, which require the use of technologies or knowledge developed from research activity. The business strategy must also be based on technology development.
Type of project: large multi-sector, multi-disciplinary, and multi-technology industrial research projects, with budgets between 5 and €20M, with a duration of between 3-4 years.
Beneficiaries: groups of Spanish companies in two categories: “Large Companies” and “SMEs”.
Type of aid/eligible expenses: subsidy up to the maximum intensity limits: 65% Large companies, 75% Medium-sized companies, and 80% small companies.

National funding for ERA-NET projects
The Spanish companies whose projects have been selected in the International Calls for Proposals of differentERA-NETs, which have passed the international phase, can be funded nationally through two of the CDTI’s and EPE’s instruments:
- The annual national calls for direct granting of subsidies without a competitive tender (SERA), finance the ERA-NET projects selected in the Cofund Calls with co-funding from the European Commission.
- Loans for European R&D Technological Cooperation projects, soft-loans with a non-reimbursable tranche of 33% that finance ERA-NET projects selected in the Additional Calls, without co-funding from the European Commission.
It enables public-private co-operation in the area of international R&D.

NEOTEC
Financing of the start-up of new business projects that require the use of technologies or knowledge developed from the research activity and in which the business strategy is based on the development of technology.
Priority is given to the incorporation of people with a PhD degree into the company to strengthen their capacities to absorb and generate knowledge.company to strengthen their capacities to absorb and generate knowledge.

Application deadline: 05/07/2022
Type of project: Projects of 1 or 2 years duration. The actions must respect the principle of not causing significant harm to the environment (DNSH principle), which entails compliance with specific conditions.
Beneficiaries: small innovative companies.
Type of aid/eligible expenses: Grants of up to 70% of the budget for the action, with a maximum grant amount of €250,000 per beneficiary. Actions that include the employment of at least one doctor, under the terms provided in Annex II of the call, may finance up to 85% of the eligible budget for the action, with a maximum subsidy amount of 325,000 euros per beneficiary
