Lassaletta, Luis
PhD in Sciences from the Complutense University of Madrid (2007), he has focused his career on the study of the sustainability of agricultural systems in relation to nutrient cycles and greenhouse gas emissions. After completing his PhD, he worked as Coordinator of the Ecocampus Office at the University of Alcalá. He then spent nearly eight years between Sorbonne University (Paris), CNRS (France), and the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency (PBL). In 2018, he joined the group of Prof. M. Quemada (AgSystems), CEIGRAM, and the Department of Agrarian Production at the Technical University of Madrid as a Ramón y Cajal researcher. He is currently an Associate Professor (I3 Programme).
While maintaining a focus on global agronomy, his current scientific activity is centred on studying the specificities of the Mediterranean region concerning nutrient management in agroecosystems within the context of climate change and the risks of soil contamination and fertility loss, using modelling tools, nutrient balances, historical trajectory analysis, and the generation of management scenarios. He participates as an expert in various international scientific panels such as the European Nitrogen Expert Panel (EUNEP), the European Commission’s Knowledge Hub on Water and Agriculture (2020), the FAO/IFA nitrogen balance panel, and the UN global INMS project, leading the task on nitrogen use efficiency. He is the Director for Europe of the International Nitrogen Initiative.
Luis Lassaletta has an h-index of 43 (WoS) and has published 84 JCR articles, several of which are highly cited in journals such as Nature, Nature Climate Change, Nature Sustainability, PNAS, and Nature Food. He is listed in the Stanford list of the most cited researchers. He is an invited or associate editor for several high-impact journals. He participates in numerous national, European, and global projects, having been PI in several of them.
