Laura Barroso and Barbara Soriano, CEIGRAM researchers, have recently visited the Sobrarbe region, in the Ordessa-Viñamala Biosphere Reserve, to meet with different local stakeholders within the framework of the TRANSWILD project. During their stay, they have held meetings with representatives of the agricultural sector, local action groups, managers of protected areas and other key actors to better understand the perception of the rural population on environmental policies, with special attention to the new Law on Nature Restoration.

TRANSWILD (Transformative Wildlife Management to Enhance Biodiversity Protection and Ecosystem Services Provision in Shared and Protected Multi-Use Landscapes Across Europe) is a project funded by Biodiversa+, the European biodiversity partnership promoted by the European Commission. Its objective is to analyze human-wildlife interactions in protected landscapes and their surroundings, identifying good practices and sustainable management strategies. Coordinated by the Humboldt University of Berlin, the project involves partners in Bulgaria, Italy, Norway and Spain.

As part of the study, a survey has been designed to collect the opinion of the inhabitants of the Sobrarbe region on these policies and their impact on the region. To encourage the participation of the respondents, Laura Barroso has returned to the area from February 10 in order to broaden the participation and ensure the representativeness of the data.

Presence in the territory and direct contact with the local population are key elements in this process. They not only guarantee the quality of the data collected, but also reinforce the commitment of the research team to the reality of the territory and its inhabitants.

The information gathered in the survey will contribute to improve management strategies and promote a more balanced coexistence between human activities and biodiversity.
