Ortiz-Gonzalo, Daniel
Daniel Ortiz-Gonzalo holds a PhD in Climate Change (University of Copenhagen, Denmark) and Agronomy (Montpellier Supagro, France). He conducted Marie Curie postdoctoral research at the University of California, Davis, and has worked in research and international cooperation for the last 10 years in sub-Saharan Africa, South-East Asia and Latin America.
His research explores how agricultural practices affect the environment and rural livelihoods, with a focus on how trees and tree diversity contribute to climate change adaptation and mitigation in smallholder agroforestry. By integrating community-based participatory research, field-experimental methods (gas chromatography, tree inventories, and soil analyses), and spatial deep learning models (from close-range LiDAR to satellite imagery), Daniel identifies key entry points for enhancing social-ecological resilience across scales.
Trained in university pedagogy at the University of Copenhagen, Daniel integrates research into teaching across Environmental Engineering, Impact assessment, and laboratory and field courses.
