Researchers from the AGUAGRADA project participated last week in a workshop titled Remote Sensing-Assisted Water Accounting for Sustainable Management, organised by the Remote Sensing and GIS Group at the Institute for Regional Development of the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) on 29 February and 1 March. The event showcased progress made in various projects focused on sustainable water management.

Among the projects featured in the workshop was ECLIMAR (Evaluation of the Effects of Climate Change on Irrigation Water Demand), another initiative selected by the Fundación Biodiversidad of the Spanish Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge under its grant call for projects contributing to the implementation of the National Climate Change Adaptation Plan 2021–2030, just like AGUAGRADA.
On Thursday 29 February, renowned experts presented advancements from various national and international projects on water balance estimation, primarily using satellite-based remote sensing technologies.
The session on Friday 1 March was dedicated to a joint working meeting, where methodologies, approaches, and techniques were shared to foster knowledge transfer and enhance understanding of water demand for agricultural use. Additionally, climate change scenarios considered by both projects were discussed. Water is one of the most vulnerable and critical resources in the study of the climate crisis, making it a central focus for both initiatives.
AGUAGRADA is a research project led by scientists from the Centre for the Management of Agricultural and Environmental Risks (CEIGRAM), evaluating water demand for agricultural adaptation to climate change in the La Balisa Stream Sub-basin in Segovia. At the workshop, the team presented a poster outlining the project and the methodologies to be employed to achieve its objectives.

These two days have been a valuable opportunity for collaboration and knowledge exchange between projects with aligned objectives. We look forward to continuing this partnership and strengthening collaborative efforts in the future.
