In honor of Professor Rosa M. Benito

CEIGRAM and ETSIAAB (UPM) will host the event on June 10, 11, and 12 International Workshop on Complex Systems and Applications 2026 (IWCSA2026). The session “Complexity in Living and Agroecological Systems” is aimed at researchers interested in understanding and modeling the complexity of living and agroecological systems.

The workshop seeks to gather contributions that explore complexity-based approaches, including:

  • Nonlinear Dynamics and Complex Adaptive Systems
  • Networks, scaling laws, and multiscale analysis
  • Soil–plant–microbiome interactions
  • Ecological dynamics and the functioning of agroecosystems
  • Modeling, simulation, and data-driven approaches
  • Resilience, Sustainability, and Adaptation in Managed Ecosystems

The goal is to create an interdisciplinary space where researchers from different fields can share their findings, compare methodologies, and broaden their perspectives. In this edition of the Workshop on Complex Systems, there is a particular focus on research that links theoretical advances with applications in ecology, agriculture, and livestock systems, as well as broader socio-ecological systems related to sustainability and resilience.

In addition, the organizing committee is considering the possibility of publishing a special issue or edited volume featuring a selection of the submitted papers.

We invite researchers, professionals, and graduate students to submit proposals for presentations related to any of the above topics, or that offer new approaches to the study of complex systems as applied to agroecological and socio-environmental contexts.
