A new Research Seminar will take place this Monday 03 March at CEIGRAM. The seminar will be held online and in person, in CEIGRAM’s Conference Room, at 12.30 pm.
Ana Isabel Cordeiro, researcher at the Instituto Politécnico de Portalegre, will present the project ‘Biodiversity and Hemp, new enclaves in the EUROACE area’, which has as a priority the protection and conservation of biodiversity in natural and rural environments, while seeking to improve ecosystems and environmental quality in urban areas. Its approach is aligned with the policy objective of a greener and more resilient Europe, moving towards a net zero carbon economy through clean energy transition, circular economy, climate change mitigation and adaptation, as well as sustainable risk prevention and management and urban mobility. The specific objective of the project is to strengthen the protection and preservation of nature, biodiversity and green infrastructure, including urban areas, and contribute to the reduction of all forms of pollution.
In the framework of this project, a seminar will be held at CEIGRAM where the main advances of the research and its impact on the EUROACE region (Euroregion comprising Alentejo, Centro and Extremadura) will be presented.
Ana Isabel Cordeiro holds a PhD in Plant Biology and Production from the University of Extremadura and is an assistant professor at the Escola Superior de Biociências de Elvas, Instituto Politécnico de Portalegre, Portugal. Her research focuses on the protection of biodiversity, the valorisation of agri-food by-products and the development of sustainable strategies in agriculture and the environment. He has worked on the genetic characterisation of the olive tree in Portugal and on in vitro cultivation techniques, as well as participating in several agri-food innovation projects.
Throughout his career, he has led and collaborated in high-impact initiatives in the EUROACE region, such as INNOACE, focused on the mapping of agri-food by-products, and BGREENER, which promotes hemp as a multifunctional green structure for the conservation of transboundary ecosystems. In addition, he has actively contributed to the organisation of scientific congresses and the dissemination of his research through academic publications and conferences.
