Aktas, Rifat Melikhan
An Agricultural Engineer with extensive international experience (Turkey, Spain, Japan, Hungary, USA) specializing in plant protection. His second placement at CEIGRAM focuses on developing drought security indices and tools for risk management in Mediterranean agricultural systems under the supervision of Prof. Carlos Gregorio Hernández Díaz-Ambrona and Prof. Ana Tarquis.
This research strengthens his dry-lab skills in data analysis and agricultural risk modeling. He has also collaborated on a separate project with Prof. Ruben Moratiel, further enhancing his expertise. Additionally, his ongoing work as a visiting student at CBGP (Centro de Biotecnología y Genómica de Plantas, UPM-INIA / CSIC) investigates the tripartite interaction of bacteria, fungi, and plants in arsenite (As(III)) tolerance. This dual-role placement combines wet-lab and dry-lab techniques, enhancing interdisciplinary skills and indirectly supporting sustainable agricultural development.
Previous experience at Teikyo University, Japan, in Prof. Koji Miyamoto’s Phytochemistry Laboratory on jasmonic acid and plant hormone responses to stress, complements his CEIGRAM research by integrating lab and analytical skills to inform climate-resilient agricultural solutions.
