Fernández Mena, Hugo
He has recently joined the Viticulture and Woody Crops Group in the Department of Agricultural Production as an Assistant Professor. He holds a degree in Agricultural Engineering from the UPM and a PhD in Agronomy from the University of Bordeaux. He has spent most of his professional career in France, where he worked as a researcher at INRAE and as a professor of Crop Systems at the agricultural colleges of Montpellier and Lyon. His research has focused on territorial agronomy and systemic agronomy, using data science to mobilise data and records from farmers in order to simulate agricultural production on a regional scale and study the relationship between this production and environmental resources (climate, soil, irrigation water, etc.). In future projects, he seeks to respond to the challenges posed by climate change and the availability/scarcity of irrigation water in woody crops.
