Viticulture Research Group
The Viticulture Group of the UPM develops its research work in close collaboration with companies in the sector, so that the lines of work emanate from the sector as well as from social demand (ODS). The work currently underway is aimed at i) the study of minority varieties to learn about their adaptation in hot areas, ii) the study of the response of vines to irrigation with water of different quality, and iii) the study of precision viticulture for irrigation management. Another important field is viticultural consultancy, which allows students to carry out internships in companies as well as to learn about very different areas of cultivation.

Associate ProfessorPhD in Viticulture from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.
She has conducted research on vineyard irrigation, contributing to the development for vineyard irrigation in the DO Vinos de Madrid and studying grapevine varieties from an agronomic perspective. She has recently addressed the low sustainability of much of the Spanish vineyard in warm regions, concluding that minimal pruning could be a viable strategy to enhance sustainability in the sector but implies a paradigm shift in vineyard management (higher yields, increased water use, greater technification, and enhanced professionalism in the field). Her last project, still in progress, focuses on studying minor grape varieties to evaluate their enological potential in warm regions. Currently, she is also dedicated to precision viticulture, aiming to improve precision and speed in determining crop water status and/or berry composition through the use of multispectral and thermal cameras.
The SENSOLEOVID project opened a line of research in precision viticulture aimed at assessing the water status of the vineyard. The result of this project are the publications Tarquis et al. (2019) and Espartosa et al. (2019) and Camacho et al. (2020) where the usefulness and limitations of the indices obtained with a multispectral camera and CWSI to determine the water status of the olive grove and vineyard, respectively, are highlighted.
Currently, she has two ongoing projects, the first one, GO VID-EXPERT on the calculation of C footprint in wine vineyards and recommendations to reduce it and the other one, BigPrediData, for the study of yield prediction in wine vineyards.
