Insurance and risks

Agriculture, as an economic activity, directly depends on the natural environment, is vulnerable to different biological (pests and diseases) and climate-environmental (climate change, droughts, floods, etc.) phenomena. All this makes it necessary to apply a strategic approach to managing the risks inherent in this activity. At present, various mechanisms and instruments are dealing with risk analysis and management. Professionals in the sector need continuous training and updating on the essential set of new technologies and tools under development.

CEIGRAM researchers are working on innovative solutions to improve agricultural sustainability by enhancing the role of agriculture insurance as a fundamental instrument for stability and the sustainable management of natural resources. It also contributes to disseminating Spanish experience in risk management and agricultural insurance in the international arena, collaborating with international governments by preparing laws and regulations on agricultural insurance.
