R&D aid from the Community of Madrid

Aid for innovation Centers

The Community of Madrid calls for aid to contribute to the improvement of public-private cooperation in the field of R + D + i by supporting technological innovation projects with a tractor effect prepared by open innovation centers in the Community of Madrid, in the framework of the Regional Research and Innovation Strategy for Smart Specialization (RIS3).

Application deadline: 03/02/2021
Objective: Finance projects developed by public-private groups in one of the following thematic areas: A. Nanotechnology Area, Advanced Materials, Industrial and Space Technologies; B. Health, Biotechnology, Water and Agrifood Area; C. Energy, Environment and Transportation Area; D. Information and Communication Technologies Area.
Type of project: Technical feasibility studies, industrial research or experimental development projects lasting 2 years, with an average annual budget of between 2 and 8 million euros.
Beneficiaries: Groups that will be made up of at least i) a locomotive company, which will have to be a large company; ii) three companies considered SMEs, of which at least one must meet the requirements of a young and innovative company (“startup”); iii) an organization for research and dissemination of knowledge or a University, if there is only one, it must be public; if two or more research organizations or universities participate, at least one of them will be public.
Type of aid/eligible expenses: Direct subsidies, up to 80% depending on the type of project and the size of the company, with a maximum limit of 1,250,000 euros/year for a project.

Synergistic R&D Projects of the Community of Madrid

Every two years, the Community of Madrid announces grants to fund synergetic R&D projects of excellence in new and emerging scientific areas at the frontier of science and of an interdisciplinary nature that promote processes of change per society’s challenges (Axis 3 and Programme 3 of the Regional Plan of Scientific and Technological Innovation V-PRICIT). The grants finance research groups, but the participation of companies as associate members is valued.

Application deadline: 05/10/2020
Objective: To fund synergetic R&D projects of excellence in new and emerging scientific areas at the frontier of science and of an interdisciplinary nature that promote processes of change per society’s challenges (Axis 3 and Programme 3 of the V-PRICIT).
Type of project: 3-year, disruptive projects aimed at meeting the territorial needs of the community of Madrid mainly from an international perspective, prioritising areas of collaboration between research teams.
Beneficiaries: Universities, IPOs, research foundations, and public or private health institutions. Two interdisciplinary research groups from the Community of Madrid with complementary skills, knowledge, and resources to jointly address and solve ambitious scientific challenges and problems. The participation of companies as associate members is valued.
Type of aid/eligible expenses: grant of up to 300,000 euros/year for staff/fungibles/can be inventoried/other.

The Community of Madrid’s Technological Innovation Grants

The Community of Madrid announces annual grants that finance creation, start-up, and consolidation of new and young innovative technology-based companies in innovative business activities. These business activities require the use of technologies and/or knowledge developed from research activity or generated by research bodies based in the Community of Madrid and/or in the market. The business strategy is based on the development and intensive use of technology.

It promotes public-private co-operation since part of the financial aid granted must be used to finance R&D expenditure and investments linked to the project, which is developed by consortia and active research group networks, funded by other Community of Madrid aid programmes.

Application deadline: 14/09/2020
Objective: the creation and start-up of young technology-based companies and the consolidation of high innovation-intensive SMEs that are between 5 and 15 years old.
Type of project: 2-3 years, they can be developed in any municipality of the Community of Madrid. Areas: Nanotechnology, health, biotechnology, water, agri-food, energy, environment and transport, information, and communication technologies.
Beneficiaries: SMEs and Start-ups of the Community of Madrid.  
Type of aid/eligible expenses: grant of up to 60,000 euros for new companies (<1 year; 125,000 euros for the growth of young enterprises (1-5 years); 250,000 euros (SMEs 5-15 years).
