AgroSceNa-UP Project Results Presentation Day

Fecha: 08/11/2023

On November 29th, we would like to invite you to attend the Workshop on Evaluation of agricultural management scenarios at different scales for sustainable Mediterranean cropping systems through the reduction of nitrogen losses.

Wednesday, November 29, 2023 (9:00-17:30) – Salón de Actos, Edificio de Agrícolas (ETSIAAB, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid)

In this event we will present the main results of the AgroSceNa-Up project of the Spanish State Plan for Scientific and Technical Research and Innovation, which ends in November 2023.

AgroSceNa-Up has aimed to perform an integrated and multi-scale (provincial and national) assessment of the sustainability of Spanish agricultural systems from the perspective of nitrogen flows and management as a basis for designing and evaluating alternative management scenarios. The project has considered the agronomic, environmental and economic dimensions of sustainability.

We have worked in a space of nested spatial scales from the plot spatial scale (through a field trial), the grid scale, the province and finally the national scale, as well as system scales including crops, livestock systems and the agri-food system in the medium term (1990-2015 including also an exploration of the long term 1860-2015).

The modelling framework established served to evaluate the effectiveness of different fertilization strategies to reduce reactive nitrogen emissions considering also the effect on crop yields. The implications of each strategy have been scaled up to provincial and national scales.

Co-creation with stakeholders has been a central axis in AgroScena-Up both in the design of the field trial and in the discussion on the applicability of the alternative management scenarios with the participation of representatives of farmers and livestock associations, the Administration, fertilizer companies, civil society and members of the scientific community.

The event’s agenda includes presentations by national and international experts in sustainable fertilization and panel discussions.

If you are interested in attending please register here, places are limited.
